ROMANCE LANGUAGES FILM SERIES

Every Friday, you're invited to watch a great movie (subtitled in English) and hear French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish. Be at the Old Horticulture auditorium (OHB 206) at 5:00 for:

LUCIA Y EL SEXO (Jan 23) – In an attempt to get over losing her novelist boyfriend, Lucía retreats to a quiet Mediterranean island. It's there that she begins to examine the passionate beginning and the darker details of their relationship. (Spanish)

O ANO EM QUE MEUS PAIS SAÍRAM DE FÉRIAS (Jan 30) – During the military dictatorship in Brazil, a 12-year-old Mauro is left behind to live with his grandfather in São Paulo's Jewish community. But since the boy's grandpa had died, a neighbor takes care of him. (Portuguese)

PARIS JE T’AIME (Feb 6) – A collection of five-minute films about the City of Lights brings Paris to life with a unique patchwork of 20 stories. (French)

INCANTATO (Feb 13) – a 35-year-old college professor dispatched to Bologna by his affluent parents to find a spouse. While attending a tea dance, he meets a blind beauty who captures his heart. (Italian)

LES AMANTS DE PONT NEUF (Feb 20) – Alex, a homeless, fire-eating addict living on the Pont Neuf, meets Michele a starving artist who's losing her vision. They come together to become whole again. (French)

VOLVER (Feb 27) – Irene revisits her hometown in the La Mancha region---in spectral form--to resolve problems she couldn't settle during her life. She becomes a reassuring presence to her daughters. (Spanish)

ÁRIDO MOVIE (Mar 20) – Weatherman from a TV station in São Paulo goes back to his arid hometown in Rocha, northeast of Brazil, to attend his father’s funeral. He is forced to face his fate and destiny. (Portuguese)

LOS AMANTES DEL CÍRCULO POLAR (Mar 27) – The moment they meet, 8-year-olds Ana and Otto feel they have a special connection. When their families finally meld, the two children realize they, too, may share a romantic destiny. (Spanish)

ANTONIA (April 3) – Four São Paulo friends embark on an all-or-nothing quest to succeed in the music industry. They sacrifice everything to overcome the poverty, violence and sexism surrounding them. (Portuguese)
LE HUSSARD LE TOIT (April 10) – Angelo, an Italian soldier hiding from his Austrian enemies in rural France is helped by a countess. Angelo offers to protect her as she searches for her missing husband. (French)
NON TI MUOVERE (April 17) – .Esteemed surgeon Timoteo waits in agony to hear whether his 15-year-old daughter will live through a surgery being performed by a co-worker. As thoughts race through his mind, he ponders over his past. (Italian)

UN LONG DIMANCHE DE FIANÇAILLES (April 24) – A young Frenchwoman vows to find out what happened to her missing fiance during World War I. As she looks for the truth, she discovers unexpected things about herself and the people she meets. (French)
